Lateral entry for children aged 4+ (registration after the lottery)
If you want your child to start at Theo Thijssen after the citywide placement lottery at age 3, for example because you are moving to the Jordaan, this is possible in some cases. We have a maximum of 25 children per group. Most of our classes are full at the moment. We never accept new pupils in groep 8.
Enquiries
Are you interested in a place at the Theo Thijssenschool for a child aged 4 and over? Please contact Emma van Nifterick by e-mail (e.vannifterick@ttsa.nl). Please state in this email:
- your child’s name and date of birth;
- your current, and if applicable, future address;
- your phone number;
- the reason why you’re looking to switch schools (e.g. relocation);
- which language(s) your child speaks;
- desired transfer date;
- name and address of the current school;
- current grade your child is in (e.g. British system, year 4).
The process
When we have received the necessary information, we first check whether there is room in the desired group. If so, we will ask you for further information about your child’s development. Based on this, we determine whether we can meet the educational needs.
Our internal counselors consult with the current school or daycare center. Only then can we make any commitments about placing your child at Theo Thijssenschool.
If your child doesn’t speak Dutch yet
Usually children aged 4 and 5 who do not speak Dutch yet can start school in groep 1 or 2 without attending newcomer class first. They will learn the language through immersion.
Children 6 and over who do not speak Dutch yet, or who are not fluent, will attend an external newcomer class before starting at Theo Thijssenschool. If we accept your child, we will find them a newcomer class. After graduation, your child will start in a regular class at our school.
Deadline for registration
Please note: registration of lateral entrants for the 2024/2025 school year is possible until Friday, June 6, 2024 at the latest. After that date, we can only process registrations of children who will move to Amsterdam in the summer of 2024.
